Description from the seller
Bible, that is: The entire Holy Scripture, containing all the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments. By order of the High Mightinesses, the States General of the United Netherlands, and according to the decision of the National Synod held in Dordrecht in the years 1618 and 1619. Faithfully translated from the original into our Dutch language. By order of the Lords, Burgomasters of the deputees of the E. Church Council of Amsterdam, as appointed.
In Amsterdam. At Jacobus Conynenberg. Isaac van der Putte. 1728.
On the front cover, the inscription:
church
VAN
MIDDELIE
1838
This Bible was connected to the Reformed Church in Middelie, in the Zeevang region, Noord-Holland province. Unfortunately, it was demolished in 1969. What remains is an 'echo from the past'.
This Bible edition from 1728 by Jacobus Conynenberg and Isaac van der Putte is extremely rare. You won't find it anywhere else. The Bible also includes the first edition of The Book of Psalms from 1774 by Samuel and Johannes Luchtmans in Leiden. Together with its provenance, it is a genuine collector's item for Bible enthusiasts and collectors!
Original binding of blind-stamped leather over wooden boards. A small piece of replacement leather on the front cover. The inscription 'Middelie 1838' has some shaved leather. Original clasps, still working fine. Binding in good condition. No loose pages. The last page of the index at the back is missing. Otherwise complete. Pages at the front are water-stained in the margins or in the middle near the seam. Sometimes with dog-ears. A beautiful antiquarian object!
Total number of pages: 1314
Approximate 25 x 20.5 x 9.5 cm
Weight (without packaging): 2.4 kg
For your information, included is a printed article (2 pages) titled 'Kerkgeschiedenis in de Regio Zeevang' from the magazine Venster, about the history of the Hervormde church of Middelie.
