Description from the seller
Orientalist scene – European school (c. 1900-1950) – Oil
Magnificent oil painting with a strong orientalist character, belonging to the European school of the first half of the 20th century. The work depicts a traditional street in North Africa with its characteristic architecture: ochre walls, green wooden windows, stylized towers, and an imposing horseshoe arch dominating the composition. The scene is lively with several figures in local dress and a loaded donkey, charmingly recreating everyday life in a Maghrebi enclave.
The artist shows remarkable sensitivity in the treatment of light, using a warm and Mediterranean palette that highlights the architectural volumes and adds depth to the scene. The technique is careful, with visible and well-executed brushstrokes, and a special attention to the atmosphere, successfully conveying the characteristic ambiance of the historic cities of the Magreb.
The set stands out for its compositional balance, chromatic richness, and evocative capacity, making it an ideal piece for collectors of Orientalist painting and lovers of European travel painting.
