This is a demon incense burner of ascending luck made of copper.
The demon is lifting a dragon-lidded incense burner.
It is thought to be around 50 to 100 years old.
Demons are Japanese monsters, and symbolize evil, frightening, and strong things that appear in folk songs and local beliefs.
Therefore, they have the meanings of "strong," "bad," and "scary."
Demons also have an aspect of being one of the gods that protect Buddhism. There are many legends about the founding of a temple, in which a famous monk was guided by an demon who was impressed by his virtue when he founded the temple. In Japanese temples, there are many demons who play an active role as guardian deities, such as onigawara tiles and Amanojaku, which protect the four corners of towers.
At first glance, they may seem like villains, but in fact they boast of their strength and are guardian deities.
