Napoleon III style decorative clock in gilt bronze on a marble base with four feet, featuring a costumbrista scene and a black dial with white Roman numerals, 31-day mechanical movement, no sound, made in France and dating from 1940–1950, in good used condition and in working order.
Description from the seller
This decorative clock in the Napoleon III style is a piece of great character and ornate richness, crafted in gilt bronze on a marble base with four legs that enhance its sculptural presence. The composition includes a genre scene in relief, featuring a male figure dressed in 18th-century historical attire, accompanied by a dog, which adds a narrative and human touch to the composition.
The clock is centered on the structure, with a black background dial featuring white Roman numerals and ornate hands, framed by golden plant motifs that extend to the top and side, reinforcing the exuberant and symmetrical style characteristic of the Second French Empire.
Although it dates from the 20th century, it retains the historicist aesthetic of the 19th century, with an internal mechanism that still works, though it requires adjustments due to the passage of time. The piece lacks the winding key, which is common in antique clocks, but this does not detract from its appeal as a collector's item and decorative piece.
This type of clock combines functionality with decorative art, evoking the bourgeois taste for the narrative, the classic, and the refined.
Certified shipping and good packaging.
