Artist biography
Ingrid Atterberg (1920-2008) was born in Harnosand, in northern Sweden. She studied at the Slojdforeningens school in Göteborg. In 1944, she joined the Upsala-Ekeby ceramics manufacturer, where she remained until 1964. She became one of the most prominent Swedish creators of her time.
Ingrid constantly experimented with different glazes and techniques. She found the creative process stimulating and believed that failures often served as sources of inspiration. Her austere and bold creations, both for decorative objects and everyday items, earned her significant artistic and commercial success. During her time at Upsala-Ekeby, she completed more than 100 series.
Ingrid Atterberg never hesitated to experiment with forms, materials, enamels, and decorations.
After leaving Upsala-Ekeby, Ingrid Atterberg embarked on independent work for companies and artistic creation in her own studio. Her experiments with enamels and crackle clay are particularly remarkable from this period. She managed to achieve unique results, which are now highly prized by collectors.
