Description from the seller

M. Minucii Felicis Octavius Cum Integris Woweri, Elmenhorstii, Heraldi & Rigaltii Notis Aliorumque hinc inde collectis – Marcus Minutius Felix / Jacobus Gronovius (editor)

Lugduni Batavorum [Leiden]: Apud Cornelium Boutestein, Samuelem Luchtmans, 1709. [20], 496, [24], 56 pages. 19cm x 11.5cm. Full vellum binding with gilt decorated boards and spine, hand lettered spine, and red edges. First edition thus of this narrative dialogue between a Christian and a pagan, edited by Jacobus Gronivius. This is the only known work by Marcus Minutius Felix, a third century Roman scholar. There is a separately paginated appendix in which Gronovius sharply attacks the Genevan theologian and scholar Jean Le Clerc (also known as Johannes Clericus). Comes with an engraved title vignette, one full-page and some in-text engravings, and engraved initials.
Rubbing, bumping, wear, and some soiling to the boards and spine. The boards are a bit bent. Some soiling to the front and back endpapers. Pencil markings on the title page. The front free endpaper has a piece from the top torn off. Browning and spotting throughout as usual. The text and illustrations are clear, and the binding is solid. Overall, a nice copy in very good condition.
