Vase of flowers with parrot, 17th century, oil on canvas, Italy, sold with frame; dimensions 50 x 117 cm (frame 135 x 75.5 cm); attributed to Italian School (17th century) with non-signed signature.
Description from the seller
Artist active in Rome in the 17th century - Vase of flowers with parrot
A baroque triumph of colors and life: roses, carnations, blue irises, and golden calendulas overflow from a vase, accompanied by sinuous pumpkins and a precious parrot with green-blue plumage peeking out among the flowers. The work breathes the great Roman tradition of the seventeenth century, when Mario Nuzzi dominated this very refined genre, sought after by cardinals and nobles throughout Europe.
The light caresses the petals against the dark background, creating depth and drama. The painterly quality is remarkable: every detail reveals the hand of an experienced artist in naturalistic rendering and harmonious composition.
The work bears an attribution tag to Mario Nuzzi, known as 'Mario dei Fiori.' However, the work cannot be attributed to the artist as there is no expert appraisal.
Dimensions: 50 x 117 cm (with frame 135 x 75.5 cm)
Technique: Oil on canvas
Period: 17th century
Conservation state: good, shows a slight damage in the center (see last image), frame recently renewed (see back photo).
Cornice: Not original, made of gilded wood.
The lot will be shipped only to a European address.
