• History of the wine / estate:
• Maison Louis Latour was founded in 1797 and remains family-owned, making it one of the oldest and most respected producers in Burgundy. 
• The vineyard “Les Chaillots” lies in the commune of Aloxe-Corton, a Premier Cru site known for soils rich in limestone, alluvial sand and gravel (“pebbly, stony soil” — cailloux in French), giving wines a balance of power and elegance typical of the Corton terroir. 
• The 1999 vinification: open-vat fermentation followed by 10–12 months aging in French oak barrels (about 35 % new oak) from Latour’s own cooperage. 
• Tasting notes for this cuvée traditionally highlight aromas of black cherries, blackcurrants, forest floor/mushrooms, leather, spice and touch of oak; on the palate, a refined yet powerful fruit intensity, firm tannins, good structure and a long elegant finish. 
• Drink or keep / Ageing potential: This 1999 “Les Chaillots” is drinkable now and should offer charm and complexity in its mature phase.
