Description from the seller

Luxury edition of the novel 'Joy in Heaven' by C.F. Ramuz, produced at the expense of the bibliophile society 'Cent femmes amies des livres', illustrated by Guy Bardone (1927-2015) with 20 original color lithographs, including 11 hors-texte.

Limited edition of only 100 copies, named and numbered on Vélin de Rives, the only edition and the only paper. A copy missing the proof page (with number).

In sheets, with a embossed cover and double casing (cardboard box and a green cloth-lined back). In very good condition. Some marks on the box and discreet signs of handling on the front endpaper. Otherwise, the interior is impeccable. A fine copy.

Summary:

The inhabitants of a Vaud village are resurrected and return to their homes, which have been renovated. Adèle finds her bastard, whom she had drowned in the river in a past life; the blind see; the amputee walks. Oppression and money no longer exist. Ramuz sings of a rustic, ideal, and transparent world from which time has vanished... But since there is no longer a past, no future, there are no more memories, no more projects. Soon, boredom will bite into the souls. The infernal cohort of the punished, who remain in their graves and want to escape, will have to return to threaten the village so that its inhabitants finally realize their happiness. The author's message is as clear as his words, as violent as his images: there is no happiness, no eternity without the memory of evil.

Author: Charles Ferdinand Ramuz - Guy Bardone.
