Very beautiful edition of the famous novel by Musset published by Alphonse Lemerre, printed on Arches vellum (without print run justification), and bound in a luxurious binding signed by Kauffmann Horclois.

Our copy is enriched with four beautiful engravings by Louis Monziès printed on laid paper and three engravings by Lalauze after Eugène Lami, printed on Japan paper.
Inside, there is a reproduction of a letter signed by A. Dumas (see photos): [Sir, you thank me for having had the idea of the publication that you have just successfully completed, after so much care and expense. It is not I whom you should thank...]

Full navy blue morocco binding, six borders framing the covers, spine with gold-embossed nerves decorated with borders forming compartments, title in gilt letters, and date stamped at the foot. Inner dentelle and the binder's name stamped at the bottom of the front pastedown. Gilt head. Covers and spine preserved. A fine, uncut copy with large margins.
In very good condition, very discreet rubbing on the covers, some faint and light foxing, a small stain along the top of the first pages, a mark on the head edge. A fine copy.
