Description from the seller

NWA 17708 – Howardite Meteorite Slice

All Meteorite specimens come with a COA from Treasure Coast Meteorite Co. and a beautiful GemBox display case.

Howardites are ancient regolith breccias from asteroid Vesta, formed by countless impacts mixing eucritic and diogenitic material on its surface. They’re basically a snapshot of asteroid geology in your hand — fragments of another world fused by time and space.

These slices show beautiful brecciation and contrasting clasts typical of regolith breccias. A perfect addition for collectors who appreciate the rare and historic link between asteroid geology and planetary evolution.

Petrography: (Jose Garcia, ADARA) Thin section reveals a polymict fragmental breccia composed of diogenitic, basaltic eucritic, and cumulate eucritic lithic clasts and associated mineral debris. Clasts reach sizes up to 16 mm and are embedded in a cataclastic, fine-grained matrix. Diogenitic material accounts for up to ~30 vol% of the breccia. Accessory phases include chromite, FeNi metal, ilmenite, sulfides, and a silica polymorph.
