Andrea Imwiehe, In Gentle Closeness_ diptych, two acrylic paintings on canvas, each 70 × 50 cm (overall 70 × 100 cm), original, created in 2025, back signed and numbered with an authenticity certificate included.
Description from the seller
This contemporary diptych in acrylic on canvas depicts a reduced, almost meditative portrayal of birch trunks against a cool, monochrome background. The clear vertical lines of the birch contrast with the gentle expanse of the light blue color space, creating a quiet, atmospheric tension. The bark texture is worked out in a pastose manner and conveys a lively surface effect through its tactile quality, as often found in modern material painting.
In the art historical tradition, the work connects to the long history of landscape painting, which has steadily gained importance since the Early Renaissance and reached its emotional peak in Romanticism. However, while classical landscape paintings often capture the abundance of nature, this diptych clearly aligns with the aesthetics of reduction, as gained influence in the 20th century through movements like Minimal Art and Scandinavian-influenced Naturalism. The birch trees – long a symbol of elegance, renewal, and light – are presented here not narratively but as pure visual essence: line, structure, rhythm.
The two-part nature of the work (diptych) enhances the impression of a calm dialogue. The two panels are closely related formally, yet they also allow space for association and interpretation. This open interplay recalls modern nature studies, which do not document but condense atmospheres.
