This work is a version of the portrait of John Deakin painted by the British artist Lucian Freud between 1963 and 1964. Lucian Freud (1922-2011) is considered one of the most important figurative artists in contemporary art. John Deakin (1912-1972) was an English photographer, known for his work focused on members of the intimate circle of painter Francis Bacon in Soho.
My works address different themes, almost always starting from personal experiences, such as personal relationships, adapting to new places to live, mythomania, the physical and material condition of living beings, or the linguistic differences between cultures. They always begin with figurative reference images but without aiming for realism, with the outline line being a fundamental part of the process. These reference images are both my own and others', collected over a long documentation process. They are narrative works, where ideas and concepts are more important than the formal way they are expressed. My aesthetic and conceptual references include artists like Jean-Michel Basquiat, Georg Baselitz, Markus Lüpertz, Julian Schnabel, and David Salle.
