Silver brooch weighing 15.4 g dating to ca. 1870 from the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia), featuring a rose-cut Painite main stone in a silver setting in good used condition, size about 6x5 cm.
Description from the seller
Brooch with Painiet (river crystal rose-cut faceted), although only determined in the 1950s, it was already known and used in former Dutch East Indies, now known as Indonesia, in jewelry. The stones set in silver, with a close setting, shine like diamonds and were also called water diamonds. This brooch has a secure clasp. Antique Dutch East Indies, made by a silversmith around 1870. In primitive antique craftsmanship, silver was often alloyed itself, making it impossible to test the purity. A unique brooch of high historical value. Size 6x5 cm.
