Description from the seller
Vincenzo Caiazza
Amalfi, oil on panel, 50×40 cm
Title: [not specified]
Artist: Vincenzo Caiazza
Technique: Oil on panel
Dimensions: 50 × 40 cm
This work by Vincenzo Caiazza captures with extraordinary sensitivity the timeless magic of the Amalfi Coast, viewed from above at a moment of twilight light.
The artist constructs the scene through a weaving of vibrant and textured brushstrokes: quick, layered touches, almost impressionistic, shaping the architecture embedded in the mountain. The houses are arranged like a luminous mosaic, a cascade of warm colors — ochre, pink, orange, and earth tones — interrupted by sudden flashes of white and blue that suggest windows, staircases, and reflections of lamps lighting up at sunset.
In the foreground, the maiolicated green dome of the church dominates, rendered with great plastic solidity and a refined play of light that highlights its volume. Around it, the urban fabric thickens: alleys, terraces, and small buildings emerge from deep shadows, creating a dynamic dialogue between light and darkness.
The left side of the painting opens up to the calmness of the sea: a turquoise expanse, soft and melancholic, crossed by gentle ripples and a few barely suggested details that give breath and depth to the composition. The sky, built with thin glazes, fades from the golden pink of sunset to the cool tones of the night blue, enveloping the mountain in an almost dreamlike atmosphere.
The work stands out for its strong atmospheric impact and the artist's ability to combine the liveliness of the brushwork with a refined sense of light. The result is a vibrant, emotional vision, a tribute to the dizzying beauty of the Campanian coast, suspended between sea, architecture, and mountain.
