Ceramic West German Fat Lava vase, 37 cm high, dating from 1960–1970, with a beige‑brown heavily lava‑porous body and a vivid red, turquoise, black and orange glaze; cylindrical form with a slightly indented neck; attributed to Scheurich; in good used condition with minor age marks and glaze damage not clearly visible.
Description from the seller
Characteristic West German Fat Lava vase from the peak of the 1960s and early 1970s, an expressive example of the experimental glazing techniques of that era. The vase combines a heavily melted, porous 'lava' structure in beige and brown with a spectacular, vividly colored glaze in red, turquoise, black, and orange, flowing in dramatic, drop-shaped movements over the body. This lively play of colors makes the vase a typical representative of the expressive Fat Lava aesthetic.
The shape is classic cylindrical with a slightly recessed neck and appears particularly three-dimensional due to the contrasting layers of glaze. It is the combination of a light, coarse-pored lava surface and vibrant gloss glazes that belongs to the most sought-after decorative variants of the West-Germany period, as it perfectly captures the playfulness and experimental spirit of the ceramic manufacturers of that time.
Vases of this kind are often attributed to Scheurich, one of the most important producers of the era, known internationally for its distinctive glaze effects and diverse shapes. An expressive collectible for lovers of mid-century design, retro interior, and West Germany ceramics, it enriches any space with color and sculptural energy.
The glaze has a damage in one spot. However, due to the design of the vase, it is not noticeable. (see photos)
The goods are wrapped in padding foil and surrounded by bio-styrofoam, then shipped in a double-walled carton via DHL.
