Description
A refined antique Wajima-nuri lacquerware set from Ishikawa, Japan, consisting of a lidded box and matching square tray.
The deep, lustrous black urushi lacquer provides an elegant base, while the lid is decorated with exquisite gold makie (蒔絵) featuring graceful blossoms—resembling hibiscus or morning glory—and two small birds perched gently on a branch.
The composition reflects the timeless beauty of Japanese kachō (flowers and birds) motifs, richly enhanced by the patina and dignity that only antique lacquerware can offer.
