Ijaz Raqamhkan - An Anthology of Persi_n Sufi poetry - 1770

An exquisite pair of rectangular miniature illuminated pages rescued from an anthology of Sufi poetry scribed in Safina format with nasta’liq script. The script is beautifully written in two columns separated by a central pillar, illuminated in gold floral leaf design, and is pillowed with gold clouds. Both are framed with a thick gold border and a thin outer blue frame line. This manuscript would make the most wonderful gift. It is in the form of a rhyming couplet, with part of the the left folio translating as, 'The friend has thrown string around my neck and pulls me wherever the heart desires. The right folio loosely translates as, 'If it be love, there is no sorrow in the punishments of faults. I saw your face, what do I need the world for? It is signed by a calligrapher named Ibdallah, also known as Ijaz Raqamkhan, an honorific title given to prominent calligraphers.
