Philip Douglas “Phil” Taylor (born 13 August 1960) is an English former professional darts player and widely regarded as the greatest darts player of all time. Nicknamed “The Power”, he dominated the sport for over three decades, winning 214 professional tournaments, including 87 major titles and a record 16 World Championships.
Taylor was initially mentored by Eric Bristow and won his first world title in 1990, followed by a dramatic second title in 1992. In 1993, he became a founding member of the organisation that later became the Professional Darts Corporation (PDC). His career includes eight consecutive World Championship titles (1995–2002), 14 consecutive finals (1994–2007), and 11 televised nine-dart finishes.
He held the world number one ranking for thirteen years, won the PDC Player of the Year award six times, and was runner-up in the 2010 BBC Sports Personality of the Year. Taylor retired from professional darts after the 2018 World Championship.
