Description
A wonderful depiction of Ibizan life by Ignacio Gil Sala, one of the great interpreters of Mediterranean light. The work represents a group leaving Mass at a hermitage in Ibiza, with numerous figures dressed in traditional clothing, children in the foreground, and the island's characteristic white architecture.
This is an exceptionally complete and meticulously crafted composition, with a wealth of figures, vibrant brushstrokes, and an island light that only Gil Sala could capture so perfectly. His works set in Ibiza, with their Mediterranean character and luminous atmosphere, are the most highly regarded within his oeuvre.

Ignacio Gil Sala (Barcelona, 1913–2003) was a Post-Impressionist painter trained at La Llotja. His work revolves around the landscape and everyday life of the Mediterranean, with a particular focus on Ibiza, where he created some of his finest genre scenes. He is considered one of the great visual chroniclers of the Mediterranean in the 20th century.
