A band from the golden age of this famous French satirical magazine.
It concerns the year 1907, no. 210, February 9, 1907 through no. 261, February 1, 1908, with beautiful title pages, countless text illustrations, appendices and various advertisements. It provides a good snapshot of the political, cultural and artistic life in France at the beginning of the 20th century.
The top corners of the binding are damaged. The magazines look very good.
Le Rire (1894–1971) was the most successful of all satirical French magazines at the beginning of the 20th century. The magazine was filled with splendid drawings by famous artists such as Steinlen, Toulouse Lautrec, Goursat, Willette, Forain, Capiello, Hermann-Paul, and Guillaume.
Le Rire was involved in dance halls, cabarets, and cafes to evoke the atmosphere for its readers, including illustrations of contemporary stars such as Yvette Guilbert, Polaire, Jane Avril, and Réjane.
The magazine featured full-page chromotypographies on the front, back, and middle pages. Many of these illustrations are now sought-after collectibles.
