Description from the seller
Jewellery Box – Mythological Cherub and Lion Relief – Gilt Silvered Metal – Blue Silk Interior – Early 20th Century – Neoclassical Style
A richly decorated jewellery box featuring a dramatic relief of winged cherubs engaged in a mythological scene with lions. The craftsmanship is expressive and full of movement, giving the box a museum-quality presence.
Set upon small ornate feet and finished with beaded edging, lattice side panels and floral motifs. The interior is lined with its original blue padded silk, aged beautifully over time. This piece once surely graced the dressing table of a distinguished home.
Workmanship suggests late 19th – early 20th century, Neoclassical Revival.
Marked underneath: D171 and MII, likely a model and production number from a high-quality workshop.
A rare decorative object with great character, ideal for collectors of antique jewellery boxes, mythological decor and detailed metalwork.
