This is a Showa period wooden andon lantern featuring a hexagonal structure with a tall, elegant rattan handle. The frame is crafted in natural wood, while the sides are covered with traditional paper that gives a soft, warm appearance when illuminated. The lantern separates into two parts: the upper shade and the wooden base, which includes a central metal spike to hold a candle securely in place.
The rattan handle shows some wear from age. The paper panels have age-related stains and small marks, and one area shows a minor dent on the paper surface. The wooden frame also displays signs of age and light wear. Please refer to the photos for the condition. The lantern remains in good used condition overall, with a charming vintage presence typical of Showa craftsmanship.
