Description from the seller
Interesting painting by the artist Vico Viganò (Cernusco sul Naviglio 1874 - 1967) an oil painting on a wooden panel in good condition.
In the upper right side, a slight break in the wooden support can be observed, which requires a minor conservation restoration.
The work measures 60cm x 47cm.
The frame is contemporaneous with the work.
The painting depicts a man wearing a traditional Sardinian costume, specifically from Desulo. The men's costume of Desulo is distinguished by its vibrant colors, including red, orange, and multicolored silk embroidery.
These traditional costumes are the result of a long process of transformation between the 16th and the late 19th century. Historically, the costume served as a means of social communication, indicating regional belonging, gender, age, and marital status of the wearer. The embroidery, handcrafted with multicolored silk threads, features geometric and floral motifs.
Origin of the collection from a private Italian collection.
