A magnificent chiaroscuro atmosphere in this legendary jazz club.
Birdland is a legendary, iconic place in Manhattan, New York. It was
Founded in 1949 at 1678 Broadway Avenue. It was named after "Bird," a nickname
from jazz saxophonist Charlie Parker.
The club was closed in 1965 and then reopened in 1986.

Dennis Stock was born in New York in 1947. He learned photography alongside
by Gjon Mili, renowned for his sensitivity and desire to experiment
with light and movement. He won first prize in the competition
young photographers from LIFE Magazine for their photo showing the arrival of refugees
from East Germany in the port of New York.
In 1951, he joined the Magnum agency. Mili, Henri Cartier-Bresson, W. Eugene Smith
and Ernst Haas, who represent the "golden age" of photography, had a great
influence on his work.
