Description from the seller
Original advertising poster by P. Scheiurller, dating from around 1940, for the Belgian coffee producer Oréal, featuring the quality brands Sirene (mermaid – the queen of coffee) and Phoque (seal). The packaging features attractive graphic eye-catchers, which depict a girl in local costume in the basket, fearlessly looking the customer in the eye.
Print: Les Arts graphiques du Hainaut, Paturages.
Condition A: minor printing marks in the white margin at the bottom, otherwise completely intact. Fresh colors.
This original vintage advertising poster is a vibrant and stylized promotion for the Belgian coffee brand Oreal. Created in the 1940s by artist P. Scheiurller, the poster captures the bold, expressive visual style of the period.
A striking woman dressed in black with dramatic red hair and a vibrant yellow-red checkered bow dominates the image. She holds a large braided basket filled with coffee packages featuring imaginative branding -such as a mermaid (La Reine des Cafés), a woman in traditional costume, and a seal (Phoque)—illustrating the range of Sirène et Phoque coffee products.
The message “GOUTEZ les CAFÉS des MARQUES” (“Taste the Branded Coffees”) emphasizes brand quality, while bold typography and a limited but rich color palette of black, red, white, and yellow create a compelling visual impact.
