Madonna Addolorata - NO RESERVE, 19th century oil painting, Italy, sold with frame.
Description from the seller
Elegant miniature depicting the Madonna
Addolorata, painted with extraordinary finesse on an oval plaque of porcelain (or enamel on a ceramic support), characterized by a soft modeling of the face, delicate complexion, and deep blue cloak.
Cobalt reflections.
The level of precision in the stroke, particularly in the face and the glazes of the mantle, is typical of the high school Italian productions of the early 19th century.
The miniature is enclosed in a precious Fiorentina wooden frame carved in openwork, richly decorated with foliage motifs and vegetal scrolls.
The intaglio is of excellent quality, with depth and movement, and retains the original leaf gilding, now slightly patinated by time.
The back of the frame features:
An old pencil inscription bearing '1810', likely referring to the dating.
• a small numbered label, probably related to a previous collection or vintage inventory;
Old attachment system still being present.
The work originates from Naples, where it was found in a private collection; the frame, on the other hand, is clearly of Tuscan manufacture, as confirmed by the typical style of Florentine carving from the early decades of the nineteenth century.
Condition
Miniature in excellent condition, with no cracks, color lifting, or visible restorations.
Cornice in good condition with normal signs of wear, small marginal chips in the wood, and slight abrasions of the gilding, perfectly consistent with its age (over 200 years).
