Rigoletto (or Le Roi s'amuse) is an Italian opera in three acts and four scenes by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Francesco Maria Piave, based on Victor Hugo's play Le roi s'amuse, first performed on March 11, 1851, at La Fenice theatre in Venice.

Otello is an opera in four acts by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Arrigo Boito based on Othello or the Moor of Venice by William Shakespeare, and it was first performed at La Scala Theatre in Milan on February 5, 1887.

Un ballo in maschera is an opera in three acts by Giuseppe Verdi, with a libretto by Antonio Somma, premiered at the Teatro Apollo in Rome on February 17, 1859.
The libretto is inspired by the events that accompanied the assassination of King Gustave III of Sweden during a masked ball at the royal opera in Stockholm in 1792.
