Mid‑century modern silver brooch by Tone Vigeland for PLUS, model 'Fugl og hest' (Oiseau et cheval), Norway origin, Sterling 925/1000, weight 10.67 g, 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm, in excellent vintage condition with no laboratory report.
Description from the seller
Rare and important modernist solid silver brooch, identified as the 'Fugl og hest' model (Bird and Horse).
This is a major work by the renowned Norwegian artist Tone Vigeland, designed in 1959 for the design studio PLUS in Fredrikstad (Norway).
This model has an undeniable historical value: it is currently part of the permanent collections and exhibitions at the Nasjonalmuseet (National Museum of Norway), demonstrating its importance in the history of Scandinavian design.
Identification and Punches
This piece bears the complete set of period stamps, guaranteeing its authenticity and prestigious provenance (see detailed photos):
TV (intertwined letters): Artist's signature Tone Vigeland.
The first emblem on a rectangle could be the emblem of the organization 'Norway Designs,' a historic distributor of high-end Norwegian design. But it is almost illegible with my phone.
NORWAY Sterling 925 S: Norwegian manufacturing guarantee and silver content (first title).
Artistic Description
The design, inspired by brutalist and abstract styles, subtly suggests the silhouettes of a bird and a horse's head. The brooch stands out for its remarkable textural work, typical of Tone Vigeland's creations: the contrast between smooth, polished silver curves and vertical stems with a hammered, raw surface ('nugget texture'). This contrast captures light and gives the jewelry a sculptural dimension.
Model identical to the one exhibited at the National Museum of Norway (Inv. NMK.2008.0614)
Condition: Excellent original vintage condition, well-preserved patina, functional closure system.
Dimensions: 4.5 cm x 3.5 cm.
Material: Sterling Silver 925/1000.
A rare collectible item, documented and of museum quality.
Careful and secure sending.
