A luminous Orientalist view of a mosque with minaret, domes and figures, painted with the fresh, stippled touch typical of Lucie Ranvier-Chartier. The composition captures the light of North Africa and the warm tones of stone and sunlit sky.
Provenance and exhibition
Old exhibition label on the reverse: Galerie Ecalle, 3 Faubourg Saint-Honoré, Paris (angle Rue Royale). Inscribed “Ranvier-Chartier. Exposition Coloniale. La Tunisie. No 54” with the name of a former owner. This label documents participation in Galerie Ecalle’s Colonial Exhibition devoted to Tunisia, early 20th century.
