Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
In Moskau, first book by Helfried Strauss and Klaus Schneider, 1st edition (1975) published by F. A. Brockhaus Verlag Leipzig, hardback with dust jacket, 180 pages, German language, covering art, photography and history, with captions sheet in English, French and Russian.
Description from the seller
GREAT GDR ("DDR") PHOTOBOOK AND WONDERFUL FIRST BOOK by Helfried Strauss ("Die Fähre", "The Ferry") - a REAL DISCOVERY.
MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
What at first (quick, superficial) glance appears to be a tourist book turns out to be a photographic masterpiece at second glance.
At the time, it was heavily criticised in the GDR for its loose language and critical passages,
now it is sought-after and highly valued by connoisseurs.
COMPLETE WITH THE LOOSELY LAID-IN TEXTSHEET (the captions to illustrations) -
in English, French and Russian.
THIS IS THE VERY FIRST PHOTOBOOK AUCTION ON CATAWIKI - dedicated entirely to the world of the former "DDR"/"GDR" ("GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC" or "EAST GERMANY") which existed from 1949 to 1990.
Still largely undiscovered and unexplored, this field offers a wealth of fascinating discoveries for collectors.
5Uhr30.com presents exceptional works by renowned and emerging artists, survey works, compelling monographs, as well as extraordinarily rare small vintage catalogues, vintage children’s books and vintage factory photobooks; signed publications, posters, and much more.
Helfried Strauss is a highly underrated (East-)German photographer.
He is professor emeritus of photography at the Academy of Visual Arts in Leipzig.
"Helfried Strauss was born 1943 in Plauen, Saxony. Helfried Strauß was a lecturer at the Academy of Visual Arts Leipzig from 1978. In 1993, he took over the professorship for artistic photography. He has been a professor emeritus since 2008. His photographs have been shown in numerous exhibitions since the 1980s and have been published in several illustrated books."
