Rated Excellent on Trustpilot.
Verliebt in Berlin (WITH ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET) by Edith Rimkus, first edition hardback published by Verlag Neues Leben in 1958, 212 pages.
Description from the seller
EXCELLENT, HIGHLY UNDERRATED EAST GERMAN PHOTOBOOK by Edith Rimkus and Horst Beseler ("Erntesommer", "Bullermax", "Matti im Wald").
With the MORE AND MORE SCARCE ORIGINAL DUSTJACKET.
Thomas Wiegand, Manfred Heiting, "Deutschland im Fotobuch", page 328/329.
THIS IS THE VERY FIRST PHOTOBOOK AUCTION ON CATAWIKI - dedicated entirely to the world of the former "DDR"/"GDR" ("GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC" or "EAST GERMANY") which existed from 1949 to 1990.
Still largely undiscovered and unexplored, this field offers a wealth of fascinating discoveries for collectors.
5Uhr30.com presents exceptional works by renowned and emerging artists, survey works, compelling monographs, as well as extraordinarily rare small vintage catalogues, vintage children’s books and vintage factory photobooks; signed publications, posters, and much more.
FANTASTIC LAYOUT by Horst Beseler.
BRILLIANT PHOTOS by his wife Edith Rimkus-Beseler.
Edith Rimkus-Beseler (1926-2016) was one of the most well-known photographers from East-germany (GDR).
MY HIGHEST RECOMMENDATION.
Like always we guarantee detailed and accurate descriptions, 100% transport protection, 100% transport insurance, and of course, combined shipping - worldwide.
MAKE SURE YOU DON'T MISS THIS UNIQUE CHANCE!

Book excellent, inside and outside fresh and flawless, clean with no marks and with no foxing. Dustjacket impressive, quite fresh, better than usual, but with some trace of use, especially at the edges; some tears (acid-free) taped from behind, neat missing part at the top right corner of the front. Overall fine condition.
Fantastic East German photobook - with the very scarce original dustjacket.
"Edith Rimkus-Beseler (1926-2016) was a German photographer, storyteller and art teacher.
After attending primary school, Edith Rimkus trained as a technical draughtswoman at the Schichau shipyard in Königsberg.
In 1945, she fled to Saxony via Hamburg and became a new teacher there. She later studied at the Dresden Academy of Fine Arts under Josef Hegenbarth and Hans Grundig and trained in the workshop of the photographer Pan Walther in Dresden-Loschwitz. In order to be able to buy a camera, she worked briefly as a mine surveyor in the Wismut mines.
She moved to Berlin to work for the publishing house Volk und Wissen and then worked as head of the photography class at the Fachschule für Grafik und Buchkunst in Berlin-Schöneweide. She later worked as a freelancer for various magazines and publishers in Berlin.
Rimkus-Beseler was involved in the production and publication of illustrated books and children's books. She obtained a diploma as a specialised teacher for art education at the Humboldt University in Berlin and worked as an art teacher and freelance photographer.
She was a member of the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR from 1952; she was also a member of the International Federation of Art Photographers (AFIAP).
She was married to the writer Horst Beseler (1925-2020) and lived with her family for forty years in a former farmhouse in Hinzenhagen, in the district of Rostock in Mecklenburg."
