Numbered copy No. 64/500.
Willy Pingel art binding
Grand folio 45cm × 34cm, complete with 59 color plates.
Superb luxury edition dedicated to the Ottonian masterpiece preserved at the Staatsbibliothek Bamberg and listed as UNESCO Memory of the World.
This large-format publication reproduces in 59 color plates the miniatures of the famous Apocalypse, mounted on Bütten Hahnemühle cardboard, of exceptional quality.
The offered copy is number 64 of a strictly limited edition of 500 copies, bound in half parchment in a handeinband executed by the Willy Pingel workshop (Heidelberg), one of the master bookbinders in Germany in the mid-20th century.
It is kept in its original paper box packaging.
59 color plates mounted on Bütten Hahnemühle. 41-page commentary.
Half parchment binding, spine with raised bands, boards covered with cloth.
Numbered edition 64/500.
Format 44cm × 33cm, 6 kg.
The Bamberg Apocalypse, created between 1000 and 1020, is one of the greatest monuments of Ottonian illumination, probably intended for Otto III or Henry II. It is the only illustrated Apocalypse from the Ottonian period that has been fully preserved.
The miniatures, of rare graphic power, are executed on a gold background and accompanied by sumptuous initials in gold and silver.
Very good overall condition for a volume of this size and print run, fresh plates and perfectly mounted, positive remark.
Pingel art binding in excellent condition, with only minor scratches, original case complete, showing normal signs of use, no damage, no structural weakness.
