A very RARE and beautiful edition in original decorated binding of ‘The Myths Of Greece And Rome Their Stories, Signification And Origin’. This generously illustrated book of classical myths has become a classic itself, long prized for its simple, graphic, accurate retelling of the principal myths of Greece and Rome, and for its commentary on their origins and significance. The myths, as H. A. Guerber observes in her preface, "have inspired so much of the best thought in English literature that a knowledge of them is often essential to the understanding of what we read.
Special edition of this lovely decorative volume. Profusely illustrated with frontispiece, and many full-page plates-also in colour- from famous pictures and statues taken from famous artists, including Lord Leighton, G. F. Watts, B. Picart, Michaelangelo and Edward Burne-Jones. Lacking 2 b/w plates but with 3 colour illustrations not listed!!!!
Published by George G. Harrap & Company, London, 1918 edition. Publisher’s original maroon cloth boards, embossed on front board!!! Top page edge gilt. Binding in overall very good condition, some shelfwear, light wear around edges and corners . Inside very good, very light foxing,text readable. Illustrations in very good condition. Never seen a copy with this particulare binding!!!!
