Description from the seller
Magnificent seascape painted by Salvador Abril y Blasco, one of the great Valencian painters of the post-academic period, specialized in maritime views, ports, coastal landscapes, and luminous scenes of the Mediterranean. The work depicts a rough sea with breaking waves in the foreground and small boats on the horizon, created with fluid and vibrant brushstrokes, typical of Valencian marine painting of the late 19th century.
The painting features a signature that is difficult to read but recognizable as S. Abril, consistent with the artist's autograph style on many of his mature works. The oil on panel technique is characteristic of his production, often executed en plein air, with particular attention to atmospheric effects, the movement of water, and the depiction of light at sunset.
The palette, played on deep blues, marine greens, and golden brightness in the sky, is consistent with Abril's most mature phase, when her painting becomes more dynamic, poetic, and modernly synthetic.
The work is accompanied by an antique wooden frame, consistent with the period, which perfectly enhances the romantic and Mediterranean character of the painting.
Good overall condition, with normal aging of the painted surface due to the age of the panel. Antique frame with signs of time.
The input is a dash character, which does not require translation.
Salvador Abril y Blasco (1862–1924) was one of the leading Valencian painters of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Trained in the academic environment of Valencia, he developed a broad and refined body of work, specializing in seascapes, port scenes, landscapes, and Valencian genre scenes. His works were highly appreciated both in Spain and abroad, and he participated in numerous regional and national exhibitions.
Abril is known for his ability to capture the Mediterranean atmosphere: bright skies, moving sea, ships on the horizon, and an extremely sensitive use of light. His painting is a meeting point between academic tradition and modern sensibility, with a strong connection to the Valencian School of the late 19th century.

Signature at the bottom (the signature is barely legible but identifiable as S. Abril).
