Description from the seller
Vierge à l’Enfant – oil on canvas mounted on panel, Italian School of the 18th century
Very beautiful depiction of the Virgin and Child, executed in oil and presented in an old gilded frame.
This devotional work is distinguished by the softness of the scene and the finesse in the treatment of the faces, typical of Italian workshops from the late 18th century.
The Virgin, with her gaze gently lowered, envelops the Child Jesus in a luminous blue drape. The Child, slightly turned towards her, holds a small cross, symbol of his destiny, reinforcing the spiritual dimension of the composition. The whole is harmonious, intimate, and highly decorative.
The colors — deep blue, wine-red, and golden highlights — bring a beautiful visual richness. The touch is precise, nuanced, and reflects meticulous work.
There is a good rendering of volumes and flesh tones, as well as elegant and lively drapery. The expressions are soft and classic. An antique gold frame that perfectly highlights the artwork.
General condition: signs of wear and minor age-related changes, but overall stable, healthy, and decorative.
Technique: oil on linen canvas that has been re-primed.
Dimensions: 41x31.5x4 cm
A charming piece, ideal for religious art collectors, enthusiasts of old paintings, or for refined and cozy decor.
