【Product details】
This elegant four-panel folding screen from the Showa period features a hand-painted composition on silk by Morishima Mifune, depicting sparrows perched among gracefully arching branches of cherry blossoms. The delicate brushwork and subtle gradation of tones reflect the refined sensibility of traditional Japanese painting.
Cherry blossoms symbolise the beauty and transience of life, blooming brilliantly before quickly falling—a metaphor for impermanence and renewal in Japanese aesthetics. Sparrows, often associated with good fortune, family harmony, and industriousness, are believed to bring happiness and prosperity. Together, the pairing of cherry blossoms and sparrows represents joy, vitality, and the fleeting beauty of spring.
The artwork bears the artist’s signature and seal at the lower left. It shows minor signs of age, including slight wear, some stains, discolouration, and patina or rust on the metal fittings. Please refer to the photos for details of the condition.
Note: Due to size regulations, this item cannot be shipped to SPAIN, GERMANY and DENMARK. We ask residents there to please refrain from bidding.
Dimensions when opened: approx. H 92.5 cm W 180 cm D 1.5 cm
