Josef Schwaiger (born 1962, Linz) is an Austrian painter active in contemporary abstraction. Trained at the Mozarteum in Salzburg, he develops a research focused on matter, color, and process: overlays, glazes, friction, and absorption that generate dense and rhythmic chromatic fields. His work often features formats on canvas and paper, with particular attention to the physical structure of painting. His works are often untitled ('Ohne Titel'), emphasizing the sensitive and phenomenological qualities of color.
