This elegant four-panel folding screen from the Showa period features a handpainted depiction of blooming peonies on silk, signed “Sekka” with the artist’s seal at the lower right. The delicate brushwork and harmonious colour palette reflect the refinement and grace of traditional Japanese painting.
The peony, known as the “King of Flowers” in Japanese culture, symbolises prosperity, honour, and feminine beauty. Often associated with spring and elegance, it represents wealth and good fortune, making it a popular motif in both fine art and classical decoration.
The screen shows minor signs of age, including light stains, small holes, slight discolouration, and minor blemishes, but remains in good used condition overall. Please refer to the photos for further details of the condition.
