Description from the seller
The cooperative is in the village of Le Perréon in the Beaujolais wine region. The Château des Loges estate (the manor house) dates to the late 18th century. In 1960 a group of local winegrowers acquired the Château and founded the cooperative the following year (1961) which vinified its first harvest then. Today the cooperative comprises around 150 harvesters / growers and holds some ≈ 430 hectares of vines, producing several appellations including Brouilly AOC, Côte de Brouilly AOC, Beaujolais‑Villages AOC etc. The domaine lies on steep slopes (“coteaux pentus”) in the heart of the Beaujolais Villages area. The soils are described as “arènes sableuses” (sandy granitic decompositions) over a granitic sub-soil. The primary grape is the Gamay Noir (100 %) for the red wines, including the Brouilly and Côte de Brouilly cuvées.
