Cast iron with rust formation.
France around the 1950s to 1960s or earlier.
The image shows a metal plaque of the legendary Christian saint Saint George slaying the dragon.
The legend of Saint George and the dragon is an early Christian story from the fifth century.
The scene symbolizes the battle between good (Saint George) and evil (the dragon).
The dragon also symbolizes paganism, and defeating it represents the conversion to Christianity.
The martyr on whom the legend is based probably died around the year 303.
It measures about 33cm high and 40cm wide.
With a weight of over 3kg.
A piece of metal was welded in the past, so it can stand freely.
In excellent condition, note that there is rust formation.
This gives the piece character; overpainting is optional according to personal choice.
