Description from the seller
VERY BEAUTIFUL VINTAGE DDR/GDR PHOTO EXHIBITION CATALOGUE from 1983 (!),
so published 6 (!) years before the fall of the wall.
On the occasion of the exhibition "9. Fotoschau der DDR" at "Ausstellungszentrum am Fernsehturm Berlin, Hauptstadt der DDR" from 22th of June to 17th of July 1983 - with 126 (!) DDR/GDR photographers.
The “Fotoschau der DDR” was a regularly held photo exhibition in the GDR, serving as a central platform to promote and showcase photography in line with socialist ideology. It was both a display platform for amateur and professional photographers and an instrument of cultural and political education.
With photos by:
Barbara Berthold, Renate Zeun, Ulrich Wüst, Erasmus Schröter, Manfred Paul, Uwe Steinbrück, Thomas Steinert, Uwe Steinberg, Thomas Sandberg and many others.
In the jury:
Thomas Kläber, Ute Mahler, Roger Melis and others.
VERY FRESH CONDITION.
THIS IS THE VERY FIRST PHOTOBOOK AUCTION ON CATAWIKI - dedicated entirely to the world of the former "DDR"/"GDR" ("GERMAN DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC" or "EAST GERMANY") which existed from 1949 to 1990.
Still largely undiscovered and unexplored, this field offers a wealth of fascinating discoveries for collectors.
5Uhr30.com presents exceptional works by renowned and emerging artists, survey works, compelling monographs, as well as extraordinarily rare small vintage catalogues, vintage children’s books and vintage factory photobooks; signed publications, posters, and much more.
The "Fotoschau der DDR" was held annually, making it a yearly exhibition where the best works of the previous year were showcased.
It was a state-organized exhibition, usually in major cities like Berlin or Leipzig.
The aim was to promote photographic skills while simultaneously conveying socialist values.
Both professional and amateur photographs were displayed, often focusing on everyday life, work, industry, culture, and socialist community.
The exhibition also served as recognition for photographers, often accompanied by awards or prizes.
