Description from the seller

Borchalou Kazak Carpet – Caucasian Masterpiece

The Borchalou Kazak carpet is one of the outstanding examples of Caucasian carpet weaving of the 19th and early 20th centuries. Characteristic of Borchalou carpets are their clearly structured, geometric patterns and contrasting colors such as deep red, dark blue, ivory, and green.

The use of high-quality virgin wool on a wool or cotton warp is typical, resulting in a firm and robust structure. The rugs often exhibit harmonious symmetry and meticulous knotting, which underscores their longevity and artistic value.

The Borchalou Kazak is often distinguished among Kazak carpets by its finer knotting and somewhat calmer compositions – ideal for lovers of traditional craftsmanship with a penchant for clarity in design.

Country of origin: Caucasus
Material: Wool on wool / natural colors
Condition: good condition
Age: approx. 160 years
