First edition of Thomas Hardy's, 'Jude the Obscure'. lllustrated with "The Christminster" frontispiece by Henry Macbeth-Raeburn and map of Wessex at rear.
8vo, Bound in publisher's dark green vertically-ribbed hunter green cloth, with lettering and decorative elements stamped in gilt on spine and front cover; top edge gilt. with the floral gilt T/H decorative monogram on the upper cover. Original plain endpapers.
The contents are complete in v, 515pp.
Condition: Binding is holding firmly and in good condition, lightly rubbed and marked to surfaces, scuffed to hinges, short split to lower hinge, bumping and abrasion to extremities/corners and spine ends. Contents are holding firmly although lower endpaper joint cracked and the mull exposed, generally in good condition if a little toned, with some occasional light spotting and grubby finger marking. Pencil annotation to pastedowns/endpapers. Please see images for further condition.
