Description from the seller
Original edition and one of the 130 copies on Arches vellum with three states of the etchings, including the pure etching (no. 64).
Illustrated by Miklós Vadász (1881-1927), a Hungarian painter, draftsman, poster artist, and illustrator. He began his career as a caricaturist for the Hungarian satirical newspaper Borsszem Jankó and as an illustrator for the Hungarian daily Az Est. He then moved to Paris and mainly worked for Le Rire and L'Assiette au beurre (Schwarz, the founder, is of Hungarian origin). Living in Montmartre, he mingled with young Hungarian artists living in the capital, such as Károly Józsa and Leó Kóber. Using watercolors, pastels, charcoal, or graphite, he created numerous portraits and genre scenes, making him a witness to the Belle Époque and the Roaring Twenties, between Budapest and Paris.
Beautifully bound copy by C. de Samblanx & J. Weckesser, who preserved all its margins.
Fawn Morocco, back with 5 nerves, author, title, gilded place and date, decorated compartments, multiple roulettes and framing fillets on the covers, mosaic roses in the corners and on the back, double gilded fillet at the edges, gilded head, inner lace, preserved illustrated cover.
Condition: Impeccable binding. Browning cover, some foxing. Very beautiful copy.
Provenance: ex-libris label Friedrich Imhoof-Blumer (etching).
