In Sedimentos, Ella Suárez develops a pictorial series that arises from the encounter between controlled gesture and surrender to time. Each work begins with a precise and repetitive action: applying layers of ink and pigment onto raw canvas, then desaturating them with water, and later — when the surface has already dried — reworking it. This second, quieter and more deliberate stage involves moistening the support again and brushing it, causing areas of wear, moisture stains, and a deliberate loss of intensity in the tones.

The black, the formal protagonist of the series, is depicted as a living body: sometimes dense, deep, defined; other times worn down to a grayish, ethereal, almost translucent state. This process transforms the surface into an eroded skin, in which the upper layers never completely disappear but remain as subtle traces beneath new veils.

Points, stains, and spills thus become floating presences inhabiting an atmospheric field full of memory. Far from following a conventional visual narrative, each work functions as a sedimented territory, where what is seen is merely the last of many layers that have been activated, diluted, dragged, or veiled.

Sediments is a meditation on the passage of time in painting. A work where water, pigment, and friction are not just means but poetic forces that reveal, layer by layer, the fragility and persistence of the pictorial.

About the artist:
Ella Suárez is a Cuban-Spanish visual artist, graduated from the Instituto Superior de Arte (ISA) in Havana, Cuba, with a master's in Design and Art completed in Barcelona. Her work has been exhibited in galleries and institutions in Cuba, Spain, and the United States, and throughout her career, she has received various scholarships and recognitions.

Suárez finds in the intersection between the Caribbean imaginary and the European pictorial tradition a fertile ground to explore the tensions between the organic and the abstract. Through a refined technique and a singular mastery of controlled chance, he creates compositions where vegetal textures, animal patterns, and indeterminate atmospheres coexist in balance.

Inspired by botany, natural rhythms, and transforming landscapes, her work explores the invisible traces of time and the sensory memory of matter. Each of her pieces invites the viewer into an intimate and contemplative space, where the ephemeral and the permanent intertwine in a silent dance.
