Description from the seller
Original edition published by Mornay, illustrated in the first printing with delicate engraved compositions in and out of text by Pierre Dubreuil.
One of the copies on Rives paper, of which the print run includes 480 numbered copies, this one does not have a number.
Bound in a perfectly executed Trinckvel half-brown morocco binding with corners, raised bands on the spine, title and author tooled in gilt, mosaic fleuron in the center. Gilt top edge. Original covers and spine preserved.
Condition: Binding in excellent condition, interior fresh and clean. A very fine, untrimmed copy.
"Pierre Dubreuil entered Henri Matisse's studio in 1909. A modern artist so free from any modernist tyranny, he produced numerous prints sought after by collectors and worked extensively in illustration." (in Bénézit). "A friend of Laboureur and Goerg, he possessed, like them, great mastery of execution, supported by a sound knowledge of the craft. In the truest sense of the word, he was a craftsman of engraving." (in Bailly-Herzberg).
