AI-assisted summary

Description from the seller

Two large antique Burmese (Myanmar) marionettes – 'Yoke thé' – wood, cotton, glass beads, pigment – circa 1950

Beautiful duo of authentic Burmese puppets, traditionally used in the classical Yoke thé shadow puppet theater. The puppets are entirely hand-carved from wood, featuring characteristic expressive facial expressions, finely applied facial pigments, and richly decorated costumes.

Both dolls wear original, multi-layered clothing with embroidered elements, shiny sequins, and handwoven fabrics. The arms and legs are movable; the original cords and the wooden crosspiece are present.

The larger figure wears a pointed hat and has a distinctive smile – typical of comedic or aristocratic roles within Burmese puppet theater.
The smaller figure has striking hair tufts, painted arms, and a refined chest plate.

Condition: good, used state with signs of age, minor paint wear, slight fabric discoloration – fully consistent with age and use. Very decorative and rare as a set.

Dimensions (approximately):
- Pop 1: approximately 50 cm tall (including costume)
- Pop 2: approximately 35 cm tall
(Excluding rope length)

Material: sliced wood, cotton, glass beads, metal sequins, original pigments.
