Vaso a grottesche con fiori recisi e fagiano is an oil-painted canvas from the 17th century, attributed to Maestro del Vaso a Grottesche, with a traditional carved gold frame, depicting a still life and measuring 94 x 127.5 cm (paint) inside a 114.5 x 148.5 cm frame, Italy, Baroque period and with non-signed signature.
Description from the seller
Grotesque vase with cut flowers and a pheasant, oil on canvas from the 17th century.
Important Italian painting that can be placed within the body of works attributed by critics since 1982 (Paràdeisos 1982, pp. 306-307) to the name of the Maestro of the Grotesque Vase, referring to those painters active during the 17th century, especially in central and southern Italy, close to the production of the Neapolitan Giacomo Greco.
The painting is on its original canvas and arrives to us still perfectly intact.
A work of fine painting quality and with a certain figurative complexity, the old canvas was at one time sewn together, a common practice for large paintings of the period motivated by the need to overcome the size limitations of fabrics made with wooden looms, which were in use until the 1800s.
Therefore, the thickness of the stitching line is visible, even in the painted layer, under conditions as shown in the photographs.
Framed within an antique carved wooden frame with a laurel leaf band, entirely gilded with pure gold leaf.
Dimensions of the painting: 94 x 127.5 cm
Frame dimensions: 114.5 x 148.5 cm
