Perrault's tales adorned with the charming compositions of Jacques Touchet, engraved in mezzotint and hand-colored.

Very beautiful copy preserved in a binding signed by S. Fontanes, executed in full camel morocco, with the front cover adorned with a fine composition of cold curves, stars, and gilded coins, spine decorated with the title in gilded letters, the binder's name stamped at the bottom of the pastedown, framed by gilded borders. The endpapers are nicely decorated with orange and green motifs. Gilt head. Covers and spine preserved.

Limited to 1,230 copies, this one on Rives vellum paper bears the number 858.

In good condition. Charming edition by Fontanes, with cracked and rubbed hinges, wear on the back and a small tear at the head cap; the second front endpaper is partially pasted down. Corners rubbed. Interior fresh and clean, free of foxing. Slightly browned guards. A fine copy.

Jacques Touchet was a French illustrator, born on September 18, 1887, in Paris, and died in the same city on November 20, 1949. A student of Paul Renouard and Louis Morin, he worked for the weekly publication L’Illustration and created numerous advertising drawings. He also illustrated many French books until his death.
Mobilized at the beginning of the First World War, he was marked by his captivity in Germany and his service in the Army of the Orient, during which he produced numerous drawings.
